Who Xavier is
Xavier Guadalupe Hernandez
Xavier Guadalupe Hernandez was a 30-year-old Latino man from El Paso.
On July 13, 2025, El Paso police responded to reports that a man near an I-10 overpass appeared to be experiencing a mental-health crisis. Xavier was unarmed. According to the federal complaint, officers Tased, handcuffed, and restrained him face-down, and the El Paso County Medical Examiner determined he died from asphyxia due to chest compression during law-enforcement restraint, ruling his death a homicide.
His mother, Angelica "Angie" Lujan, has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit and now seeks accountability, transparency, and meaningful reform so that another family does not experience the same tragedy.
A call for help should not become a death sentence.
